Most memorable project and why:
I was on the project team that was working with a Utility client on a Caribbean Island. This project was large and included multiple phases, teams and a substantial amount of change management. In addition to the struggles of distance & typical project issues we had to learn to adjust to the unhurried pace of the people on the island. Not easy when you are used to go, go go! Yes they worked and worked hard, but it all seemed much less pressured. In addition, hurricane Irma swept through & decimated the island. It would be 6 months before all the power was restored and about 11 months before the project was resumed. Of course during this time there were project team changes, equipment changes so we were almost back to square one. The teams on both sides worked well and the project was eventually completed.
Why this particular project is so memorable to me is the people, not just the project team on the client side but the people that I met on the island. I was fortunate enough to be on site on a few occasions before and after the hurricane & the physical changes were quite significant and humbling. The people on the other hand had not changed. They were as warm and welcoming as they had been prior to the hurricane. My time with them taught me the value of taking life at a slower pace. We could all learn a little from them! While I do work hard, I have learned to respect my time and the time of others and enjoy what I do.
Who is your favourite superhero, and why?
Wonder Woman because she is fearless, empathetic and intelligent. Plus the tiara and bracelets are pretty cool!
